PAVITRA RAJARAM FOR BHARAT FLOORINGS & TILES
“How do you create a floor that’s a work of art?”
A garden grows wild underfoot with Farsh, a capsule collection created by Pavitra Rajaram Design for Bharat Floorings & Tiles’ centennial line in 2022. BFT’s 100-year-old legacy is entwined with the history of modern India. To honour both, Farsh renders lush iconic motifs through a graphic, contemporary idiom.

For this collection, Pavitra drew inspiration from the elegant form of the Persian char-bagh garden, which was laid along a grid of four quadrants. Mughal motifs from marble inlay art, like the poppy and the cypress tree, have been reimagined as geometric patterns that come together on cast cement encaustic tiles. Farsh combines the artistry and intricacy of centuries old marble-inlay in a new material and a modern palette. Iconic motifs from Mughal art and Suzani textiles are painted in shades of indigo like the dusk sky over the Bosphorus, carmine like the poppy fields of Fergana, and aquamarine like the fountains of Alhambra.

Farsh celebrates the geometric precision at the heart of tile-making through the graceful symmetry of a Mughal garden in bloom.
